Notes

Great bravura cycle for lyrical soprano and symphonic orchestra, Urbania bites in four musical moments into the hectic and disturbing city life.

After a Réveil (Awakening) under the morning sunlight and horn noise from afar, the soprano goes into a Chevauchée cycliste (Cyclist ride), confronting on-wheels “cerberuses” to reach the office. Then she takes care of her tender Petite pousse (Small sprout), protecting it against the West winds, to finally complain about a city that always yells at her “Crache le cash” (Spill the cash)!

Urbania has been composed after a commission by Jean-Philippe Tremblay for Pascale Beaudin and the Orchestre de la Francophonie. It has been premiered on August 27th 2013 in Mont-Laurier, during the Orchestre de la Francophonie tour and the Festival classique des Hautes-Laurentides.
